Bill tracker

After the successful lobbying for the Kenya National Youth Council bill (2009) which finally got the Presidential assent in December 2009, the project is now working with the working groups to disseminate information to the wider youth population on the content of the law and the position of the youth on the same cause.

The project is also holding a series of meetings with counselors in Nairobi and Kisumu with an aim of lobbying for the price control (Essential goods bill) 2009. This should see the cost of living for the youth come down significantly and particularly based on the access to basic goods and services.

The Nairobi youth and Development working group have been trained on the budgeting processes by a representative from the Institute of Economic Affairs. The training focused on budget preparation cycle and the role of young people in the budget making processes. The Kisumu training preparations are underway. Working group representatives and various councilor representatives from their respective wards have been intendance of these meetings which are meant to enhance local governance. The main agenda focusing on the role of young people in the LASDAP (Local Authority Service Delivery Action Plan) and overall local resource monitoring.

Agenda Discussions with MOYA

In the view of linking the youth and the national governance processes, the project continues to share discussions worth representatives from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on based on mutual skills sharing and tapping the available potential at their disposal. In this regard, the project plans to continue with this linkage especially towards the dissemination of the information regarding the national youth council act and the role of the youth in this platform. Wider consultations are also underway with relevant stakeholders to expand the direction and processes around these linkages so as to ensure wider coverage among the youth.

The Uzalendo project will continue exploiting the innate abilities of the youth towards a generation change in our country’s leadership sphere.
